Do you have a Car or you want to buy a New Car in Florida, then you need to get insurnace coverage, but how much coverage do you need? and what is the right amount for you?

Today, almost all states have made it mandatory to carry at least the minimum limits of liability coverage in order to protect the losses that might occur in the future due to automobile accidents. Florida has also determined their minimum limits of liability that anyone intending to own or drive a vehicle must carry.

The minimum limits have two parts: Bodily injury and property damage. The prescribed limits of protection have been set as 10/20/10 which means:

Bodily Injury Liability:

$10,000 for one person in any accident $20,000 for two or more people in any accident

Property Damage Liability (PD)

$10,000 for property damages caused to others

Additional Coverage:

The above mentioned protects the victim of any automobile accident caused by the policyholder. There is no compensation for the insureds property or injury. Therefore, in order to protect ones own property, one can also purchase additional car insurance policies such as collision and comprehensive coverage.

Dont get just the minimum coverage, if you drive every day in any city of Florida you are at the risk of having an accident, if you are going to only get liability and bodily injury increase its limits, but is also recommended to get comprehensive coverage.

Also, an automobile policy is bought to cover the risks associated with traffic accidents. Therefore, if someone who uses s vehicle rarely has least risk and therefore even the basic liability may be sufficient. However, someone who uses a vehicle daily and extensively may have enhanced risk and the minimum may not be sufficient for such people. Therefore, one should also consider additional coverage based on ones risk and needs. Few of the popular additional options are:

• Comprehensive • Collision • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM) • Rental Reimbursement • Medical Payments • Towing

There are many insurers and their brokers and companies in Florida who offer auto insurance. However, an effective method to shop and compare is to visit the website of any reputed insurer/broker and seek quotes from multiple insurers. After receiving these quotes, compare them on various parameters such as cost, coverage, deductibles, discounts, etc. in order to choose the cheapest and the most suitable protection. These websites can further help one to complete the purchase only and become insured instantly.

You can call an independent agent and ask him to look for the best coverage and companies for you, but it may be more expensive. However nowadays is very easy and secure to compare quotes online, just enter your zip code in the box above this page and you are ready to go.

Florida Uinsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage?

I am ready to renew my auto insurance in Florida. My agent just inform me that in Florida if i have my own medical insurance, i do not need Uninsured Motorist coverage, is this correct?

R:

There is actually no Motorist Property Damage in Florida, do not worry about that.

However there is the option of Uninsured Motorist coverage, stacked or non- stacked.

For example Personal Injury Portection PIP is required. If you are in a car accident your PIIP coverage pays 80% fo your medical bills up to $10,000 no matter whos fault is.

Your PIP is primary no matter the fault, so lets say that someone hits you, hurts you and you have a broken leg and two arms. The arm requires surgery, how much do you think is going to cost? $20K to $60K, depending on how bad it is. Your pip now is exhausted, so how pays the rest? the persons fault may have Bodily Inury coverage which can help with your bills, but what if they didnt have insurance or they had only a $10k Bodily limit, now you have $10k in PIP and their $10k in BI coverage you haves still $40k left in bills?

Sure your Medical insurance will pay for it after the PIP and BI money but Uninsured Motorist could be paying too. Also UM can pay for lost wages and pain suffering, medical insurance wont do it. So in this scenario if you have $100k in Uninsured Motorist it will pick up the bills and give you an extra $5k for your lost wages for a month or 2. UM is worth buying and is cheap coverage.

If you want to get quotes for Uninsured Motorist coverage from the leading companies you can easily do it online, just enter your zip code in the box above this page and you are ready to go.

Various of my friends in Miami Florida have been involved in a car accident just in 2008. None of them carried any insurance above the Florida State Required limits. They suffered from not having enough insurance or the fault driver didnt carry enough to cover damage fully.

How much insurance is really total coverage? Insurance companies should offer discounts to customers for upgrading their insurance to a higher level of protection, this way everyone will be properly protected on the roads, no matter how bad the accident is.

The minimum auto insurance requirements in Florida are not enough for your protection, you should carry at least 50/100/50 or more if you can afford it. I advse all my clients to get 100/300/100 and more if possible, the price difference is not huge to be properly protected.

The Florida minimum requirements is a joke, you can easily cause a lot more damage than the minimum coverage. The fact is that if you get in to an accident you will have to pay for the damage to the other car, you car and medical expenses for the people injuried, just a trip to the hospital can get very expensive, so if you have the proper coverage you dont have to worry about it.

In florida the minium requirement is $10,000 per person you hit for medical damage, $20,000 per accident, $10,000 inproperty damage to fix the car. Also if you have lots of assets you may want to increase your coverage the most you can.

The first things you will have to do is to get quotes from the leading companies is Florida and compare them, you can easily get qutoes online, just enter your zip code above and you are ready to go.

Next month my six month policy is due to expire and i need full coveragein Florida for my 2004 toyota corolla. I have never done this before any tips or anything that i can do as far as renewsing my auto insurance in the state of Florida?

R:

You will get a renewal notice and bill shortly before your policy expires, it can be from 2 weeks to 30 days before. All you have to do is pay the bill and your policy will be renewed, if for any reason you dont get a notice call your agent.

However if you want to make a change in your policy upgrade or downgrade your coverage you need to call your insurance agent before your policy is renewed.

It is recommended to have the best possible coverage, that means to get the most you can afford to be safe from any financial loses in case of an accident. If you only have the minimum liability consider also collision and comprehensive coverage, although i know that insurance is expensive in Florida.

If you want to compare the rates you are paying now with other companies you can easily do it online. All you have to do to get quotes from other companies is to enter your zip code in the box above and you are ready to go.

The fact is that a lot of companies no longer have $0 deductibles, the minimum can be $50 deductible in some cases but it varies from each company.

You need to shop around and ask each company if they offer $0 deductibles, but i dont think there is any. However you need to know that if you caused a damage to another car you dont have to pay a deductible to your insurance company, the dedutible is paid if you damage your own car in an accident.

Also keep in mind when you get an insurance poilcy that the higher your premium is the lower your deductible will be. So based on this, if you find a close to $0 deductible policy the premium would be very high.

To get auto insurance quotes in florida is very easy online, just enter your zip code above and you will be able to compare rates from the major companies in your local area.

If you have a vehicle in florida is must have insurance, it is required by law to have at least the minimum coverage which is $10,000 personal injury protection PIP and $10,000 property damage liability PDL.

A bodily injury liability BIL insurance coverage pay for serious and premanent death or injury to otehrs when you cause an automobile accident. This way your insurance company will pay for injuries up to the limit that you policy says.

A property damage liability PDL insurance coverage pays for damages you cause to other people property in an accident that involves a motor vehicle.

Here are some facts:

You need to have at least the minimum insurance issued in Florida with a company licensed to sell in Florida, you can not use a policy from a previous state.

If you do not keep your vehicle insurance in Florida the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles can suspend your driving privilege for up to theree years.

There are other types of coverage that are not required but it may be good to have them if you can afford it like collision and comprehensive coverage. With comprehensive coverage you will not incurr in any financial loses in case of an accident, vandalism, weather, storm and any other type of damage.

Once you have decided what type of coverage you want you need to compare quotes from different companies and choose the best option. However the best option is not always the cheapes, you need to choose a company that is reliable, has quality service and financial stability.

Keep in mind that you can lower your premium costs if you increase your deductibles, but you will have to take more out of pocket money in case of an accident.

You can also lower your costs if you install safety devices in your car, take a defensive driving course and have good driving record. You can also ask for additional discounts.
